[Nostalgia] I Want to Make a Soba-Eating Game [Hobby] — Part 5
Recap so far
I’m making a game where you eat soba (super short version).
- Part 1: Project kickoff; worked out the specs
- Part 2: Built a web prototype that runs with rectangles only
- Part 3: Implemented images so it finally felt like a game
- Part 4: Worked out character settings
Basic rules:
- Clear by eating 5 bowls of soba within 60 seconds
- Bowls come in Regular, Large, and Extra-Large; eating time and how they count toward the total differ
- Eating udon, ramen, or Napolitan costs you time
- Colliding with enemies (male students) causes a brief stun
2025-12-27 Update
Today I’m thinking about mobile support.
Mobile support spec
Right now it only supports PC keyboard controls, but I want it to be playable on smartphones too.
…people keep asking for it, but honestly there’s a lot to figure out.
You know, the whole squishy-touch feel and such. Anyway.
- D-Pad: Render on a separate canvas, fixed at the bottom-left of the browser
- Tap screen (in front of the counter): Eat
- Tap while eating: Cancel (throw away)
- Double-tap (within 300 ms): Discard
- Portrait warning: Show “Please rotate to landscape”
It is a browser game, so the overall feel is bound to be a bit meh.
